Meet the people and voices behind Percy Drip

CHRIS D WARSOP

Chris is the creator and writer of Percy Drip the Plumber. He has spent many years working in the music industry, both writing and on the production side. Chris co-wrote the critically acclaimed musical, ‘Symbol of Love’, and the concert production of the show played to a packed-out theatre over four nights in 2000.

He formed Redwine Sound Hire and was busy for many years working with bands all over the UK. Chris also owns Redwine Studio, an extremely well-equipped recording facility based in Hednesford. His many years working in the plumbing industry have come in handy when creating the characters for Percy Drip. Chris lives with his wife Julie and has two grown up children and three lovely grandchildren. He now has the right team in place to make Percy Drip a reality.

ALAN BIRCH

Alan has been a freelance graphic designer for more than 20 years and has been a part of the team from the very beginning. Over the years Alan has created hundreds of illustrations for children’s books, and he was the obvious choice to bring Percy Drip and his friends to life.

Alan also has another life as an actor, and his talents will be heard on the audio versions of Percy Drip as Reverend Crankshaw. He lives in Stourbridge with his partner Nina and his two lovely Lurcher rescue dogs, Lucas and Bloo.

NICK OWEN

Nick has been a television and radio presenter since the seventies. He was a pioneer of breakfast television in the UK, forming an enduring partnership with Anne Diamond at TV-am, and later on ‘Good Morning with Anne and Nick’.
He also fronted ITV Sport in the late eighties into the nineties, which included hosting The Olympics of 1988 and the football World Cup in 1990.

He has presented BBC Midlands Today since 1997. Nick was asked to take a look at a couple of the Percy Drip books, with a view to coming on board as narrator; he loved what he read and agreed to join the team. Work on the audio books starts very soon.

Nick and his second wife Vicki have six grown up children between them, and five grandchildren.

MALCOLM BOYDEN

Malcolm Boyden is a multi-award-winning radio presenter, journalist and author. He has been presenting radio shows for the BBC for more than 30 years.

Malcolm has made several professional stage appearances in musicals and pantomime and has also been a successful columnist in The Times newspaper and Birmingham’s Sunday Mercury.

The minute he read the first book, he knew the part of Percy Drip in the audio versions was for him. He is now actively working with the team, putting his own mark on the stories…. oh, and he will be singing the theme song alongside a children’s choir ready for its release in summer 2023.

When he’s not writing, broadcasting or performing, he’s watching his beloved West Bromwich Albion. Boing Boing Boyden! Malcolm lives with his wife Maxine, and they have two grown up sons, Ollie and Elliot.

JENNY WILKES

Jenny is a well known voice throughout the West Midlands, having spent 40 years in the world of broadcasting.

She started out in commercial radio, before moving to the BBC where she presented many shows over the years including BBC Radio WM’s afternoon show, sports shows, outside broadcasts, and the hugely popular Soul & Motown Show which attracted a global audience via the BBC Sounds App. Jenny also worked at Radio 1, Radio 4, Radio 5 Live and Midlands Today.

Jenny is an experienced event host and kept busy working for many major organisations. Her other big love is Wolverhampton Wanderers. She is President of the Official Supporters’ Club and Chair of Wolves Girls’ and Women’s Football Club.

She was introduced to Percy Drip by her great friend Malcolm Boyden, and loved it so much, agreed to come on board. Jenny will be voicing Mrs Drip on the audio versions, and is busy working alongside the team honing the final books. She lives in Stourbridge with her partner Pete.

DAVID LANE

Dave has been a professional musician for over 50 years, working in everything from classical to rock, pop and jazz. In 1984 he joined the UK tour of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ as keyboard player and has been involved in the theatre ever since in the role of Musical Director.

Every Christmas since has found Dave as MD in panto land, his most recent with Brian Conley in ‘Cinderella’.

Dave and Chris have collaborated on several projects over the years and co-wrote the wonderful Percy Drip theme song.

He has now put retirement on hold and will be busy in Redwine Recording Studio, working with the team on the audio versions of Percy Drip. Dave lives in South Birmingham with his wife Sue.
